Astral travel is an Out of Body Experience (OBE) which is a common phenomenon as natural as sleeping and breathing. It happens when the mind leaves the physical body and is free to roam around the parallel astral planes.
While there is only one physical dimension, the astral plane / realm is limitless and it has seven dimensions corresponding to the seven divisions of matter namely solid, liquid, gaseous, etheric, super etheric, sub atomic, and atomic.
Astral projection is the art of projecting your consciousness out of your physical body and into your astral body. The astral body is an intermediate body between the intelligent soul and the mental body, composed of a subtle material. Astral travel is the art of travelling in your astral body after successful astral projection. The astral body and the physical body are connected by a retractable energy field which is suposedly called the silver chord
Brief History
Astral travel is very ancient and universal. Priests of ancient Egypt between 5,000 and 3,000 years ago knew the existence of the astral body. Inside the great pyramid of Giza, in the Kings Chamber lies a granite sarcophagus. The granite sarcophagus was part of an initiation process to develop higher consciousness and astral travel, through meditation while lying inside the sarcophagus. The pyramids were constructed in such a way that there is a connection between the soul and the creation. In Ancient Greece, we can see references in the Temple of Eleusis, in the writings of the philosophers Plato, Hermotimus , Herodotus, and in some reports of the historian Plutarch. In the Bible, there are various evidences of cases of conscious projections such as in Ezequiel, III: 14; Apocalypse of Juan, 1:10 and 11; 4:2; as well as in Epistles of Pablo of Tarsus (II Corynthios, 12:2). In the middle ages it was repressed and most information was hidden. In the past 100 years lots of research have been done. Today, there is a science, Projectiology, for the purpose of studying this phenomenon. Any person can develop its capacities, perceptions and self-control, getting to the point of having a conscious astral projection.
Preparations for Conscious Astral Travel
Although every human being experience travelling astrally to some degree unconsciously, we can consciously project or travel astrally and explore the different realms when we wish. While some are able to astral project anywhere at any time, beginners need to find a quiet place to lie down when they learn to do it with head pointing north. We need to wear loose comfortable clothing or no clothing at all and you should cover yourself with a light blanket because the body temperature will decrease slightly once your body falls asleep. The lights must be turned off, the doors closed, switch off all the electronic devices. Then simply relax and focus on the breathing until you are falling asleep while keeping your mind awake.
(Note: Do not try without having a proper talk on this subject with a practitioner)
How to distinguish between astral travel and lucid dreams?
Dreams are passive and we have no control over the experience while the places and situations encountered during projections are real. Projections may be difficult to recollect unlike dreams. Projectors can see their body and touch it, which is not possible in dreams.
Natural Astral travel
The souls can be induced out of the body naturally when we are close to energy fields that are present in mountains, rivers and geometrically man made pyramids ( an enclosed room made of granite and the sarcophagus to lie in).
Different classes of Astral Travel
Some of the different projective phenomena includes Self-bilocation (present at two places at a time), Self – permeability (moving through physical objects) , Internal autoscopy (seeing inside one’s own body), Cosmo consciousness ( feeling the balance of the universe - Nirvana), Precognition ( gets info related to events that have not occurred yet), Retrocognition (Information from events occurred in the past), and Extra physical telepathy (communication with individuals in other planes)
Is Astral travel Dangerous?
There is a misconception that astral travel is dangerous and other entities can harm us. Remember, in the Astral, your thoughts have power. If you don’t like something, you can always change it into something you want. By not being afraid, you can make these entities vanish or turn them into something more pleasant. If any of these entities do scare you, at the most you will slump back in your physical body. Many of these negative entities are self-created. They are nothing but manifestations of our own fears, which appear as thought-forms. In order to avoid bumping into any of these entities, you should attempt Projection in a good mood. The rule in the Astral Plane is “like attracts like”. If you are in a negative or bad mood, you will attract negative thought-forms, but if you Project with positive and loving thoughts, you will most likely attract positive and loving entities.
My Experience on Astral Travel
I have been curious about other dimensions and the beings in the astral planes since my childhood. Though I did not have the knowledge about astral travel at that age, I have unconsciously traveled in the astral plane and I wake up scared most of the time choking with no voice to cry and realized that my body was unable to move at that moment and with great difficulty I get up after my numb body comes back to normal. After growing up, I had completely forgotten about these incidents or I ignored them. But in the past 2 years, it has again caught my attention which led to a research on astral travel in the internet. I came across many techniques to do it (Will be discussed in another post) and other aids like meditation-music and binaural beats which can help in projecting easily. Recently I had traveled to the Himalayas and when I returned back home, I started projecting every night and was trekking every night on some mountain range which comes under the category Self-bilocation, i.e., being at two locations at the same time. It was an interesting experience but I was not able to recollect the incidents and meetings I had during those times.
“The biggest question, transcending physics and the realm of how he was able to do the extraordinary things he did, remained firmly rooted in the realm of metaphysics and begged an answer to why he could do these things.” ― Sol Luckman
